Who am I?

Hi! I'm Jin (he/him), and I love to help authors and publishers feel confident about the words they're putting out into the world. Your story is already amazing—all that's left is to ensure every line captivates your readers' attention, with no distracting awkward phrasing or wayward typos.I'm a lifelong reader who can immediately spot something "off" on the page, like a magpie eyeing a shiny glint in the grass.My professional training is from University of Washington's Certificate in Editing. I've edited a wide variety of projects, the latest a wonderful self-published novel about immigrants and intergenerational healing. I also have two years of experience as a proofreader in aviation publishing.I'm a bit of a Renaissance editor in that I'm comfortable navigating creative writing, nonfiction, and technical content. I've helped polish fiction manuscripts, short stories, aircraft manuals, cybersecurity proposals, community newsletters, and more.If I have to narrow it down, I'm most drawn to QTBIPOC narratives, speculative fiction, and stories involving redemption of some kind.

My flavor of copyediting blends with line editing. I'm a great fit for authors who want their writing to shine with purpose and finesse without losing any originality in the process. I care deeply about keeping the nuances of your voice, while clarifying the shape of what you're trying to say with every word.Ways I work with authors:* Copyediting/line editing: I go through every line in your draft and address weak phrasing, grammar concerns, and factual inconsistencies. I'll offer thoughtful explanations backed up by trusted industry style guides, as well as alternative suggestions for conveying your intended meaning.* Proofreading: Typically performed after copyediting, this is where I scrutinize your final typeset draft for remaining errors, formatting issues, and any typos made when applying previous rounds of editing.* Comprehensive editing: For certain projects, I can offer developmental (structural) suggestions along with line editing, copyediting, and a final proofread. This is on a case-by-case basis, and usually reserved for shorter pieces.

Pricing

Books take an incredible amount of time and energy to write, and your hard work deserves a send-off with as much care and attention as your budget will allow. That said, I know that publishing comes with many costs, so I hope to be fair and transparent about the value of my services.For most book projects, copyediting and line editing start at $0.03/word.Proofreading starts at $0.02/word.Rates for shorter pieces (under 30k word count) are determined on a case-by-case basis.
