Who am I?

Hi! I'm Jin (he/him), and I love to help authors and publishers feel confident about the words they're putting out into the world. Your creation is already amazing—all that's left is to ensure every line holds your readers' attention, with no distracting awkward phrasing or wayward typos.I'm a lifelong reader who can immediately spot something "off" on the page, like a magpie eyeing a shiny glint in the grass.My professional training is from University of Washington's Certificate in Editing. In addition to freelancing for book projects, I work part time editing patient education for UW Medicine. I was also a proofreader in aviation publishing for two years.I'm a bit of a Renaissance editor. I've helped polish fiction manuscripts, short stories, technical manuals, government proposals, community newsletters, and more.If I have to narrow it down, I'm most drawn to QTBIPOC narratives, speculative fiction, and stories involving redemption of some kind.

I'm a great fit for authors who want their writing to shine with purpose and finesse without losing any originality in the process. I care deeply about keeping the nuances of your voice, while clarifying the shape of what you're trying to say with every word.Ways I work with authors:* Copyediting/line editing: I help your book cross the invisible line between drafted and polished; I'll address issues of flow, phrasing, grammar, and inconsistencies. You'll receive thoughtful edits backed up by trusted industry style guides, along with alternative suggestions for conveying your intended meaning.* Proofreading: Typically performed after copyediting, here's where your typeset manuscript is wrung clean of remaining errors, formatting issues, and any typos made when you navigated previous rounds of edits—then buffed to a high professional shine.* Comprehensive editing: For certain projects, I can offer developmental (structural) suggestions along with line editing, copyediting, and a final proofread. This is on a case-by-case basis, and usually reserved for shorter pieces.

Pricing

Books take an incredible amount of time and energy to write, and your hard work deserves a send-off with as much care and attention as your budget will allow. That said, I know publishing comes with many costs, so I hope to be fair and transparent about the value of my services.For most book projects, copyediting and/or line editing starts at $0.02-$0.03/word.Proofreading starts at $0.01-$0.02/word.For projects that may need multiple editing rounds, I'm happy to discuss a bundled rate. Rates for shorter pieces (under 30k word count) are determined on a case-by-case basis. Projects with tight turnarounds or additional considerations, such as ESL editing, may take an additional fee.I occasionally offer discounts and sliding-scale pricing for small presses and authors with marginalized identities.If you have any questions or would like to discuss your project scope, please reach out using the email icon in the footer!
